Three Units of the Ecuador Minas-San Francisco Hydroelectric Project Undertaken by HEI All Connected to Grid

On October 24, local time in Ecuador, the third unit of the 3×90MW Minas-San Francisco Hydroelectric Project in Ecuador, undertaken by HEI, with main units supplied by HE, was successfully connected to the grid in addition to the previous two. Among them, two units have passed the 72-hour reliability operation test in one shot. According to the monitoring data, the unit shows excellent throw and vibration, and bearing bush temperature meets the technical specifications, all up to standards of an excellent project. Those two units are ready for provisional handover.

Recently, the power failures in Ecuadorian largest hydropower plant CCS caused power shortages in some areas of Ecuador. In response to demands of the Ecuadorian Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy and the national electric corporation of Ecuador - CELEC EP, the HEI Minas-San Francisco Hydroelectric Project Team made every efforts and works day and night to achieve early grid connection of the project units and complete related reliability operation test in one shot, which addressed the shortage of electricity in Ecuador successfully.

The Ecuador Minas-San Francisco Hydroelectric Project is the first hydropower EPC project undertaken by HE in the South American market to respond to the “Belt and Road Initiative” and the “Going Global” strategy of high-end equipment manufacturing industry as proposed by China, which is of strategic significance for fully exploring the South American market. For the project, all main units, including water turbine generator units, excitation and governor systems etc., are all designed, manufactured and supplied by HE, and other auxiliary systems and equipment are also manufactured and provided by Chinese manufacturers.

The successful connection to the grid and excellent operating parameters of the three units of Minas-San Francisco Hydroelectric Project not only show the outstanding design capability and excellent equipment manufacturing quality of HE, but also fully demonstrate the EPC capacity and excellent oversea project management of HEI.
