On the lands of South Asia, the scorching sun and sandstorms have witnessed the perseverance of wave after wave of Chinese builders. Here, time has crystallized into growth, and hard work has forged into strength, as individuals and projects have grown together, achieving success hand in hand.
Sun Simo joined Harbin Electric International (HEI) in 2016 and has remained committed to the South Asian market for nearly nine years. Fresh out of college, Sun immediately immersed himself in Pakistan's Bhikki and Balloki million-kilowatt unit projects, dedicating himself to the installation and commissioning of GE 9HA dual-fuel gas turbines. During his time with the gas turbine team, he started from the basics—learning to read mechanical drawings—and through diligent study, continuously enhanced his technical skills. Through hands-on practice, he rapidly accumulated experience and gradually grew into a key pillar of the gas turbine team.

The Bhikki and Balloki projects utilized GE 9HA dual-fuel gas turbines, which incorporated multiple cutting-edge technologies for the first time globally, presenting numerous technical challenges during installation and commissioning. Sun Simo took the initiative to lead coordination efforts, working shoulder-to-shoulder with his team to tackle these issues. He not only ensured the successful on-schedule ignition of the first 9HA gas turbine at Bhikki, but also, as head of the gas turbine team at Balloki, led his team to set a world record of “turbine ignition 64 days after setting” —earning international market recognition for the company through sheer technical excellence.
In late 2019, Sun Simo took on the demanding role of Site Manager for Pakistan’s BQPS-III 900 MW Combined Cycle Project, overseeing all core functions including construction coordination, schedule control, safety and quality management, and risk mitigation.

In safety and quality management, he implemented multiple refined safety management systems, clearly defining roles and responsibilities, and routinely conducting hazard identification inspections and specialized training sessions. These efforts led the project to achieve an impressive milestone of 9.7 million safe work-hours. He established quality management teams and optimized communication mechanisms, earning high recognition from the supervision consultants through rigorous standards.
In 2023, Sun Simo was promoted to Project Manager of Bin Qasim Power Station III (BQPS III), assuming full responsibility for project management. Throughout project execution, Sun has consistently upheld a customer-first principle, proactively providing comprehensive solutions based on clients’ actual needs. This approach has successfully secured multiple follow-on contracts, including retrofitting of the existing plant’s water system, fuel system upgrades, electrical system modifications, and other scopes of work. Beyond this, he also facilitated the signing of a 12-month plant-wide operations services contract, laying the groundwork for securing a future long-term operations and maintenance contract for the entire facility. Currently, Sun is actively advancing a plant-wide spare parts supply contract, supporting the regional headquarters' diversified business transformation.

Nine years of challenges, nine years of dedication. From frontline technician to project leader, Sun Simo has consistently maintained the drive of a go-getter and the courage of a pioneer.
