Expansion Project for the captive power plant of the Mongolian Erdenet Copper Mine Contracted by HEI is Successfully Completed and Awarded the 2017 Mongolian National High Quality Project Prize

On January 22, 2018, local time in Mongolia, the completion ceremony of the 4X12MW Steam Turbine Generator Unit Expansion Project for the captive power plant of the Mongolian Erdenet Copper Mine contracted by HEI had its grand opening. Political Counselor of Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Mongolia Li Yanjun, the Minister of National Energy and Power of Mongolia Davasuren, Vice Governor of Orhon Butlut, CEO of the Mongolian Erdenet Mining Group Badamsuren,, HEI’s President Qu Aimin, etc. attended the ceremony.

At the ceremony, HEI’s President Qu Aimin handed over the key symbolizing the perfect completion of the EPC project to the CEO of the Mongolian Erdenet Mining Group Badamsuren and Mr. Badama Susong awarded the Certificate of Completion and Acceptance of the Erdenet Project to HEI and also presented the Certificate of the 2017 Mongolian High Quality Project for the Erdenet Project to HEI.

Counselor Li Yanjun said at the ceremony that China and Mongolia had deepened their pragmatic cooperation in various fields and accelerated the exchanges among the enterprises. We hope that China and Mongolia can work closely with each other for mutual benefit and bring benefits to the peoples from two countries.

Minister Davasuren spoke highly of the Erdenet Project and appreciated HEI for its outstanding contributions to the electric power development of Mongolia. He also expressed his wish to further deepen the cooperation with HEI to make contributions to promoting the power cooperation between China and Mongolia.

Badamsuren spoke highly of the project schedule and the quality as well as the executive ability and professional dedication of employees. He also expressed his satisfaction with the cooperation with HEI and hoped to seek for broader opportunities for future cooperation.

HEI’s President Qu Aimin made a comprehensive summary report on the project and stated that, “powering our world and illuminating our life” is the tenet of HEI. HEI will step up the cooperation with the electric power enterprises in Mongolia to contribute its efforts to the Mongolian power industry and actively promote the cooperation between China and Mongolia in the field of energy and power.

The Mongolian Erdenet Project is a symbolic project of jointly building the China-Mongolia-Russia Economic Corridor which has been contracted by HEI to actively respond to the "Belt and Road" Initiative. The successful completion of the project made it the third largest power plant in Mongolia, which not only helps HEI make the HE Brand highlighted in Mongolia but also promotes the pragmatic cooperation between the two countries for mutual benefit.

The project was officially put into construction on May 18, 2016. The scope of the construction work includes 2X12MW double-extraction condensing turbine units, 2X12MW condensing turbine units, their supporting facilities, and the power generation and heat supply jointly carried out with the existing boilers. The design, procurement, civil works, installation and commissioning of the project are conducted fully in the principle of “Designed, Manufactured and Built by China”. All the civil works, installation and system commissioning of the project were completed on August 24, 2017. On October 26 and 28, 2017, the four units were successively synchronized at one go. With HEI’s strong technical strengths and strict construction management, the project was operated in a safe, quality and efficient way and was awarded the 2017 High Quality Project Prize by the Mongolian Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
