A few days ago, the 4X12MW Steam Turbine Unit Expansion Project for the captive power plant of the Mongolian Erdenet Copper Mine contracted by HEI successfully stood the local cold winter test and operated efficiently and stably in full accordance with the scheduling requirements of the State Grid of Mongolia, guaranteeing the stable supply that met the demands of the load required by the State Grid of Mongolia.

All the four units of the 4X12MW Steam Turbine Unit Expansion Project for the captive power plant of the Mongolian Erdenet Copper Mine contracted by HEI had passed the 72-hour reliability trial run on November 3, 2017, marking the beginning of the contract warranty period. According to the arrangements of the employer, the project was granted a formal license for commercial power generation and has put into commercial operation on January 9, 2018. The city Erdenet is Located in a high and cold area, the temperature is lower than ever in the last winter. The temperature once reached minus 49 degrees centigrade. According to the existing design and plan, two of the four extraction steam turbine units of the project are used for local heating. Safe and stable operation of the two units provided solid guarantee for local heating and helped local people safely surviving the toughest cold winter. The construction and supply of the project also successfully stood the low temperature test, with all the indicators reaching or exceeding the design criteria and all the equipments operating safely and stably, which accumulated valuable project experiences for the project bidding, construction and operation of HEI in high and cold areas. Meanwhile, the operation of the project played a positive role in the production of the copper mining enterprises of Erdenet. On the one hand it reduced the cost of the copper mine production and on the other hand it raised copper mine productivity and showed HEI’s contribution to the power development and economic construction of Mongolia.

On February 9, 2018, the 4X12MW Steam Turbine Unit Expansion Project for the captive power plant of the Mongolian Erdenet Copper Mine won the Excellent Building Design Award issued by the Ministry of Construction and Urban Development of Mongolia while the employer won the Award for Excellent Contribution to Mongolian Architectural Development.
