At 20:20 of January 4, 2019, local time, #1 Unit of the Turkish Soma 2x255MW Coal-fired Power Plant Project undertaken by HEI was synchronized for power generation for the first time and the synchronization was successful. All the system parameters of the unit were normal, the equipment operated in a stable manner and the operation quality was excellent, marking #1 unit formally entered the trial load operation stage.

The Soma Project is an important part of the “Turkey-2023” Energy Plan. Therefore it has typical demonstration effects on the local area and it is of great importance for the strategic development of the local energy. HEI is the EPSC contractor of the Soma Project and the main contract scope includes the design, procurement, supply, installation guidance, commissioning, etc. According to the design, the design coal adopted in the project is the brown coal which is abundant in Turkey.

In order to fully guarantee the successful synchronization of #1 Unit of the Soma Project for power generation, HEI established an emergency response team led by the Chinese side. The team acted quickly to eliminate adverse factors affecting the safe and stable operation of the unit. It made arrangements for brief meetings of all the relevant Chinese units on a daily basis to exchange information and learn about the field situation. In case of major issues, it arranged for various parties of the Chinese side to gather for brainstorming so as to collectively eliminate obstacles encountered during the commissioning. It regularly held meetings with the employer to strive to meet its reasonable appeals and effectively solve its actual difficulties. It implemented the work permit system to eradicate accidents affecting the operation of the unit. After the purging of the project was completed, various tasks were conducted in a stable and efficient manner, various parties at the site closely cooperated with each other, they carried out the turbine rotor impulse test according to some strict standards and requirements and they also successfully performed other tests before #1 Unit was synchronized for power generation, which fully guaranteed the successful synchronization of #1 Unit for power generation.

#1 Unit of the Soma Project was synchronized for power generation for the first time and the synchronization successful, which tremendously alleviated the pressing need of the employer, demonstrating the excellent project management ability of HEI and comprehensively creating the image of “HE Brand”. At present, the project team of HEI has further strengthened its communication with the employer and actively promoted the reliable operation test of #1 Unit and subsequent tasks in order to realize the commercial operation of the unit as early as possible.
