On April 19, 2017, Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif attended the single cycle operation ceremony of Bhikki 1180MW Combined Cycle Power Station Project, Pakistan undertaken by Harbin Electric International Company Limited (HEI) and delivered a speech ebulliently after visiting the project site. Present were Governor Shahbaz Sharif of Punjab, Pakistan, officials of Pakistani Ministry of Water and Power, Ministry of Energy and Ministry of Finance, Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan, French Ambassador to Pakistan, head of GE for the Middle East Region and the executives of the Employer.

Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif pointed out in his speech that the Pakistani Government valued energy construction and had promoted the construction of several large power station projects in his term. Among these projects, Bhikki 1180MW Combined Cycle Power Station Project is the first one that has been formally put into operation and it uses the GE 9H gas turbines that have firstly been brought into commercial operation in the world. The project began to steadily generate high-efficient electric power only 18 months after the project contract was signed, which has realized the government commitment to voters and is the achievement of the sincere cooperation among all the parties involved in the project.

Governor Shahbaz Sharif of Punjab, Pakistan fully affirmed the outstanding project implementation capacity of HEI project team. He pointed out that HEI project team set a new world record for construction of power stations of the same type which would practically improve the electricity shortage situation in Punjab.

Chinese Ambassador Sun Weidong to Pakistan said that the success of Bhikki 1180MW Combined Cycle Power Station Project was a key achievement of China’s “Belt and Road” Initiative. He extended his gratitude to HEI for its excellent contribution to Sino-Pakistani friendship and expected greater achievements of the project with efforts of all the parties.

Head of GE for the Middle East Region Ali highly praised the efforts of the project implementation team in project organization, planned implementation and quality control, and said that GE would continue to provide full support for electric power construction in Pakistan together with its partners.

At present, HEI project team is sparing no efforts to bring the Combined Cycle of Bhikki Power Station Project into commercial operation and striving to complete the contract ahead of schedule, so as to present a high-efficient, reliable and high-quality power station project to the people of Pakistan.
