Harbin Electric Corporation (HEC) regards technological innovation as a key driver for developing new quality productive forces. Focusing on major national strategic needs, cutting-edge industry trends, and bottlenecks across industrial chains, HEC has intensified efforts in critical technology breakthroughs and established an innovation system featuring “one center and four platforms,” supported by national key laboratories, original technology innovation hubs, and other high-level innovation platforms. During the implementation of the Reform Deepening and Upgrading Initiative, HEC has consistently maintained R&D investment intensity above 5%. The company has implemented the "Leading Talent Initiative" for scientific research professionals, with cumulative special incentives for R&D personnel exceeding RMB 100 million. It has also successfully restructured two national key laboratories - the State Key Laboratory of Hydropower Equipment and the State Key Laboratory of Technologies and Equipment for Low-carbon Thermal Power Generation - further expanding and upgrading its national-level innovation platform ecosystem.

HEC Independently Develops the World’s First 500 MW Impulse Turbine Runner, Featuring the Largest Single-Unit Capacity and Maximum Runner Diameter of 6.23 Meters, for the Zala Hydropower Project

Continuous breakthroughs in original innovation and cutting-edge technology development have accelerated the delivery of a number of landmark achievements. The world’s first megawatt-scale compressed carbon dioxide electro-thermal energy storage pilot system was selected as one of the “Top Ten Super Projects of Central State-Owned Enterprises in 2025.” Multiple technologies, including ultra-high-head large-capacity hydroelectric generating units and large variable-speed pumped storage units, have reached internationally leading levels. The world’s first 660 MW high-efficiency ultra-supercritical circulating fluidized bed boiler technology has filled a global technology gap. In addition, HEC successfully developed the world's largest impulse turbine runner in terms of both single-unit capacity and runner size. This achievement represents a historic breakthrough for China in the field of core equipment for high-head, large-capacity impulse turbine-generator units, ensuring that key core technologies in energy equipment remain firmly under independent control.

HEC is committed to supporting the development of China’s new power system and modern energy system. It has defined its development positioning as an equipment manufacturer, system integrator, and operation and maintenance service provider, while developing strategic emerging industries across 10 key directions in three areas: high-end equipment, new energy, and energy conservation and environmental protection. The company has completed a number of landmark projects, including the advanced manufacturing capacity rebuilding project for the pumped storage industry base, the R&D base of the national power generation equipment research center, and the high-tech industrialization project for high-temperature gas-cooled reactor steam generators. These initiatives have effectively supported the independent and controllable supply of critical national energy equipment. Revenue from strategic emerging industries now accounts for more than 60% of HEC’s total operating revenue, marking a historic optimization of its industrial structure.

HEC Vigorously Promotes Integrated Development of Digital Units, Production Lines, and Workshops

Digital and Green Transformation Accelerated in Parallel HEC has coordinated the advancement of digital management, intelligent manufacturing, and smart equipment, while promoting integrated digital development across production units, production lines, and workshops. It has established 17 digital workshops, 9 digital production lines, and 25 digital production units. Three subsidiaries have been included in the national list of 5G factories, and one subsidiary has been recognized as an excellence-level smart factory. All seven manufacturing enterprises have been certified as national-level green factories, with three receiving five-star certification as Zero-Carbon Factories (Type I). These achievements are accelerating the transformation of traditional manufacturing toward greener and smarter operations.
