The Project Department of the Middle East Regional Headquarters organized a zongzi-making cultural experience activity for Chinese and foreign employees. Chinese employees introduced to their foreign colleagues the origin, customs, and cultural connotations of the Dragon Boat Festival and shared Qu Yuan’s deep concern for the country and the people. Chinese and foreign employees sat together and worked in perfect coordination. While they enjoyed the fun of making zongzi, they also deepened their understanding and respect for each other’s cultures.

The Saudi Nairyah 2 Project Department organized a zongzi-making activity. Everyone gathered to fold bamboo leaves, fill them with glutinous rice, add red dates, and tie them with cotton thread. They exchanged tips on making zongzi, and shared Dragon Boat Festival customs from their hometowns and memories of the holiday. The cheerful laughter was filled with a warm and harmonious festive atmosphere. The project is currently at a critical stage of installation and construction, and all employees are fighting side by side and working closely together around the construction milestone targets. By the Sirdarya River in Uzbekistan, employees from China, Uzbekistan, and Pakistan sat together and made zongzi. Local employees and Pakistani partners picked up bamboo leaves and, under the guidance of their Chinese colleagues, filled them with glutinous rice, added honey dates and raisins, and tied them into shape—from fumbling at first to doing it skillfully, with constant laughter. Although the schedule is tight, this cross-cultural food experience has brought everyone closer together. Each zongzi is wrapped with craftsmanship and commitment. The pride and sense of mission shared at this moment of festive feasting vividly encapsulate HEI's stature as a global benchmark.

As the Dragon Boat Festival approaches, overseas project teams are bringing the warmth of the festival to foreign shores through the familiar flavors of home. Due to the shortage of local ingredients, instead of making traditional zongzi, they gathered to make dumplings. Stepping away from their bustling schedules, the team sat together to knead dough, mix fillings, roll wrappers, and wrap dumplings. With clear division of labor and seamless cooperation, they folded their nostalgia for home, care for colleagues, and blessings for the project into each and every dumpling. The Kazakhstan Project Department prepared local-style pilaf, immersing themselves in the steppe scenery and the simple customs of the local people, demonstrating that they have quickly integrated into life in a foreign land. Companions spending day and night together have transcended geographical and cultural boundaries, tackling critical challenges side by side and supporting one another, thereby forging a warm and close-knit collective. The Yantai LNG Project site presented a bustling, orderly, and roaring scene of activity. To help everyone relax after intense work and feel the rich, warm festive atmosphere as well as the warmth of the project family, we organized a zongzi-wrapping activity in the project canteen. Engineers who usually pour their sweat on the construction site transformed into “new apprentices” at this moment, gathering together and enthusiastically hands-on. At the Pakistan Jamshoro USC Power Plant Project (O&M) site, the Dragon Boat Festival coincided with the critical period of performance testing. To balance the festive atmosphere with production tasks, the project department adhered to the principle of “small-scale activities, no work stoppage, and no crowds,” bringing zongzi to the Chinese staff and preparing local snacks, fruits, and beverages for the local employees. During their brief breaks, everyone exchanged festive customs and shared their working experiences. This Dragon Boat Festival, everyone celebrated by sticking to their posts, and the Chinese and Pakistani employees cooperated seamlessly in test preparation, data logging, equipment inspection, and on-site logistics. A seemingly simple coffee-break sharing created a positive atmosphere of mutual understanding and joint struggle within the cross-cultural team. At the Pakistan Dasu Transmission Line Lot 2 Project site, staff members worked alongside local employees to jointly prepare Samosa, a traditional local delicacy.

At the Mymensingh 420 MW Combined-Cycle Power Plant Project site, the project department has consistently followed local customs to adjust operational details: a dedicated prayer area was set up in the camp, all material serial numbers strictly avoided the number 13, and during Eid al-Fitr, they sat in a circle with local workers to share date-palm sweet cakes. Previously, when equipment commissioning encountered an unexpected humidity surge during the rainy season, the Chinese technical personnel stayed by the parameter panel to calibrate the logic, while an experienced Bangladeshi technician quickly located the temperature sensor deviation based on his familiarity with the local climate. Walking through ankle-deep water, the team worked closely to rush the schedule, and after knocking off, they chewed on local handmade Khadma sweets together to refresh themselves. Amidst cheering voices in different languages, cross-cultural tacit understanding forged a solid synergy to advance the project.

This year, the Chinese Dragon Boat Festival coincides with Pakistan’s Muharram festival (observed from June 17 to June 26 this year). Muharram, the first month of the Islamic calendar, means "sacred month" and originates the Arabic word haram, which refers to that which is religiously forbidden. Muharram is a month of mourning and peace, where fighting is prohibited except in self-defense, embodying the core value of peace. On June 19, the Chinese personnel of the Tarbela 5 Hydropower Extension Project will celebrate the festival together with local employees. Pakistan Jhang Combined Cycle Power Plant Department (O&M)

To welcome the Dragon Boat Festival, the 1263MW Jhang CCPP Department (O&M) carried out a Chinese-style special catering activity. Chinese and Pakistani employees collaborated closely with a clear division of labor to complete dish preparation and venue decoration. Through practical exchanges, they learned from each other's folk customs, promoted cultural integration, enhanced team cohesion, and witnessed the profound friendship between China and Pakistan. In their daily work, all employees stick to the frontline of unit operation and maintenance, working in close coordination to conduct equipment inspections and O&M operations, making every effort to ensure the safe and stable operation of the power plant.
