On August 16, 2017 (local time), 2# unit of the Pakistani Balloki 1223MW Combined Cycle Power Station Project contracted by HEI passed 168h reliability test run with stable operation and excellent performance. Hereto, four H-grade gas turbines with the world’s largest capacity used in the Bhikki 1180MW Combined Cycle Power Station Project and the Balloki 1223MW Combined Cycle Power Station Project successfully passed 168h reliability test run, setting many new world records.

The two projects are EPC projects, both of which are large gas generation projects developed by the Pakistani government. The two projects have been equipped with 9HA gas turbines manufactured by GE. 9HA gas turbines featuring the world’s largest capacity, highest efficiency and most advanced technology were used in the power station among the first-to-use power projects in the world and, needless to say, Bhikki Power Station is the first power station that uses 9HA gas turbines in Asia. Bhikki Project was commenced on September 22, 2015 and Balloki Project on November 2, 2015. 1# unit of Bhikki Project was synchronized 17 months and a half later, creating a miracle in the high grade and large capacity gas turbine power station construction history. Balloki Project has set a series of world records in terms of installation and commissioning of H-grade gas turbines. 1# gas turbine successfully passed the performance test and was put into commercial operation (CO) on August 13, 2017. It only took 104 days to finish installation and commissioning, while the average cycle of installation and commissioning would be about 180 days under normal conditions. Previously, the shortest cycle of installation and commissioning of 9H gas turbines was about 120 days. Therefore, Balloki Project sets a new record in terms of the shortest cycle of installation and commissioning of 9H gas turbines, providing a perfect demonstration of “China Speed”. Meanwhile, in the 168h reliability run test, 2# gas turbine of Balloki Project generated net output of 397MW, far more than the contract guarantee output of 380MW, which fully demonstrated HEI’s brand value of “Give Priority to Quality and Keep Improving”.

The two projects won high praises from top officials of the Pakistani government. Pakistan’s Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif spoke highly of the efficient and high-quality implementation of projects, and expressed his thanks to HEI for its significant contributions to the power construction in Pakistan.

At present, three gas turbines used in the two projects have been put into commercial operation, and the fourth gas turbine will soon been put into commercial operation too. HEI’s project team is making great efforts to work on the combined cycle power system and strive to achieve the goal of combined cycle power generation, so as to make contributions to Pakistan’s power construction. Upon completion, the two projects will greatly ease the power shortage in Pakistan.
