Completion Ceremony Held for Minas-San Francisco Hydroelectric Project in Ecuador Undertaken by HEI

Organized by the Ecuadorian government, the completion ceremony of the Minas-San Francisco Hydroelectric Project undertaken by HEI was held on January 15, 2019, local time.

Carlos Pérez, Minister of Energy and Non-renewable Resources of Ecuador, Mauro Intriago, Vice Minister of Energy and Non-renewable Resources of Ecuador, William Bárcenes, General Manager of CELEC EP ENERJUBONES of Ecuador, Daniel Merchán, Governor of ORO, and Xavier Martínez, Governor of AZUAY attended the ceremony.

The Project is located in PUCARA Region where AZUAY Province and ORO Province meet in the south of Ecuador and it has adopted the EPC management mode in the construction. The total installed capacity of the power plant is 270,000 kW and the maximum annual energy output will reach 129 million kWh. As the third largest hydropower plant in Ecuador, the Minas-San Francisco Hydroelectric Project is regarded as one of the most important water conservancy projects of Ecuador in the Pacific water system because it improves and optimizes the electric energy structure of Ecuador, provides more clean energy sources and promotes the local economic development. The project can reduce the emission of CO2 by 690,000t every year on average and reduce the consumption of fossil fuel. In addition, the project has directly created almost 2,700 job opportunities for the local people of Ecuador.
